David began his career making fringe theatre in London and Edinburgh before joining Soho Theatre as Producer, rising to Creative Director and Head of Theatre, and then forming his own independent production company David Luff Productions Ltd. He has produced shows in the West End, on Broadway, throughout the UK and internationally to India, Australia, South Korea, USA, Canada and the Middle East.

With his producing partner Patrick Myles he commissioned and produced the world premiere of Network by Lee Hall, from Paddy Chayefsky’s film, directed by Ivo van Hove. Network premiered at the National Theatre in 2017 before transferring to the Belsaco Theatre on Broadway, winning Olivier and Tony Awards for its leading actor, Bryan Cranston. Patrick and David commissioned and produced the world premiere stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s iconic Dr. Strangelove, adapted by Armando Iannucci and Sean Foley (who also directed) and starring Steve Coogan. The production played a sold-out season at the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End (2024-2025) before transferring to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin.

David and Patrick’s other commercial productions include: American Buffalo (Circle in the Square, Broadway, 2022) starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell and Darren Criss; The Lavender Hill Mob (UK Tour 2022-2023) starring Miles Jupp and Justin Edwards; The Government Inspector (Marylebone Theatre 2024) starring Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Dan Skinner and Martha Howe-Douglas; Rosie and Hugh’s Great Big Adventure featuring the music of Nick Cope (Soho Theatre, Edinburgh Festival, the North Wall 2023-2024).

Notable world premiere productions he has produced for Soho Theatre include the Olivier Award-winning Boys on the Verge of Tears by Sam Grabiner directed by James Macdonald; My English Persian Kitchen by Hannah Khalil from an original story by Atoosa Sepehr; Age Is A Feeling by Haley McGee directed by Adam Brace; Shedding A Skin by Amanda Wilkin; Touch and The One by Vicky Jones; Typical by Ryan Calais Cameron; and new shows from Kim Noble and Lucy McCormick. Alongside DryWrite he produced the revivals and world tours of Fleabag by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and its New York and West End transfers.
